Blackspot Road Safety Project – Brady Road, Dandenong North

Project Overview

As part of the Blackspot program Road Safety Treatments and a more appropriate speed limit will be installed on Brady Road between Gladstone Road and Stud Road.

This project is funded by the Federal Government’s Blackspot Program. The Blackspot program funds road safety measures in locations where there is a history of road crashes.

Brady Road currently has limited traffic management devices. This lack of devices has resulted in excessive vehicle speeds. The installation of these treatments (and supporting infrastructure) will calm local traffic, reduce vehicle speeds and reduce the possibility / severity of crashes along Brady Road.

As part of this project the speed limit of Brady Road between Gladstone Road and Stud Road will be reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h.

The works will also be coordinated to occur at the same time as resurfacing works in the area.

When will construction occur?

Construction is anticipated to commence April 2025.

Nearby residents and impacted road users will be notified before the works commence so they can plan their travel accordingly.

How is this project being funded?

This project has been fully funded by the Federal Government through their Blackspot Program. The Blackspot program funds road safety measures in locations where there is a history of road crashes.

Where will the treatments be installed?

The proposed Raised Safety Platforms will be installed as follows:

  • Raised intersection at Brady Road & Exner Drive (west intersection)
  • Raised pavement at existing zebra crossing outside Brady Road shops
  • Raised safety platforms located outside No. 62, 86, 90, 118 & 134
  • Reduced Speed Limit from 60km/h to 50km/h

How are the locations for the treatments chosen?

The locations for the raised safety platforms are carefully selected by road safety experts to ensure that they are as effective as possible in terms of reducing inappropriate speeds.

The location of the platforms also takes into account the location of nearby drainage and lighting.

Can Council choose different locations for the treatments?

No, the locations for the treatments are selected by independent road safety experts, and in order to obtain the funding, Council is only able to make minor changes to the designs at this stage.

Council is committed to providing road safety infrastructure at this location as part of its aim to significantly reduce road trauma on local roads within the municipality.
